Redefining Men's Activewear
We interview Andrew Manteit, founder of The Active Man to find out more about the changing landscape of men's athleisure.
We caught up with Andrew Manteit, the man behind The Active Man to find out more about this exciting new platform dedicated to fitness, fashion and athleisure for the male consumer, as well as discussing the latest trends, the hottest fitness spots around London, and male #fitspo.

What is The Active Man?

The Active Man  is an online destination that delivers a stylish and current collection of men's activewear sourced from the world's most coveted fitness, training and athletic brands including global giants Under Armour, Adidas, Reebok and Puma to up and coming brands like Bjorn Borg, Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL), HPE and 2XU.  Passionate about finding the best in men's fitness and men's lifestyle fashion, the range includes everything from vests to tees, sneakers to trainers,  hoodies to jackets, bags to bottles, our selection of 15 brands and growing has something for everyone.
Do you think men are becoming more concerned with fashion?

I think men have generally been more conscious of what they have been wearing for a few years now.  This combined with the awareness and availability of more fashionable and functional activewear is growing all the time. It was been a much slower uptake than the women's market but we believe it will see a fast growth.

Why are men looking for more from their sportswear?

I think as women have really started to invest in activewear and the rise of people seeing working out as a way of life, rather than a chore, guys are wanting to wear something that suits the occasion.  The knowledge of performance fabrics and also some brilliant marketing campaigns from the global brands, men want to be able to sweat, but be comfortable and stylish at the same time.  With the accessibility of price points, there is no excuse to wear a basic cotton tee that becomes uncomfortable and soggy from sweat after a few reps.

What are the brands currently redefining men’s activewear?

I think Under Armour is really doing a great job in the men's space. Both from a branding point of view - what it stands for - and the product they are putting out which is both super good quality and a great price point. I am also liking the direction Adidas is going with the men's range both in performance product and the pre/post collection which is very fashionable as well.  But it is great to see some of the newer brands really challenging and pushing the boundaries of what activewear can look and feel like.
Why is it important that a platform like this exists for men?

There is so much amazing fitness and training apparel and footwear available in the market for guys.  However, as there is no place to see the best from the best brands in the world, a lot of the top product goes unnoticed to the masses.  Giving guys the ability to choose a product which specific for their training is an opportunity and being able to collate the offering in one place to make it easy is key.
How does your kit affect your performance when working out?

I am a big believer in you dress for the occasion.  You go to a business meeting in the city, you wear a suit. You go to the gym, you wear the product which will help you both mentally and physically.  Myself personally, if I walk into the gym for a session in something new or that fits perfectly or is high performance, then it puts an extra spring in my step.

What are the best pieces that cross over from activewear to casual wear?

The right trainers can transcend many different situations, from working out, travelling to business meetings.  The other piece is the classic hoodie, which if in the right fabrics or cut can be dressed up as well.
What is your favourite fitness accessory?

My earphones - I listen to podcasts and music every time I work out at the gym.  But I also love my Under Armour backpack, this goes everywhere with me.
What are your favourite sneakers?

I am loving my new yellow Under Armour Speedform Slingshots
What are your favourite fitness studios in London?

I love both F45 and Kobox. Great people and great workouts.
Who are your fitness inspirations?

I like fellow Aussies, Andrew Pap and Nick Lees
