Steps to Starting a Successful Blog
Learn from one of the best as Zanna Van Dijk shares her best tips for successful blogging.
Something many people don't know about me is that I have been blogging for over 8 years and actually have had 3 other blogs in the past; in the fields of lifestyle, beauty and fashion. However, back when I began the industry was small, everyone knew everyone, it was easy to grow and it wasn’t really a feasible career; so I stopped and started as and when I pleased. 
Oh how times have changed! Now the blogging world is saturated and has evolved into a fully-fledged industry. Children are now saying they want to be bloggers when they grow up! That wasn't even on my radar as a viable career option even a couple of years ago. Blogging is big business and I can completely understand why everyone is hopping on the bandwagon. If you’re considering getting involved, then here are five simple steps to get you started.

Define your brand

This is the most important thing. Take some time to really think about what you are passionate about and what you want to write about. You’re going to have to create a ridiculous amount of content on the topic you choose so you had better like it! Also, do you want to write? Do you enjoy it? If not then maybe video blogging is better for you. Then try to define what is going to make you unique in the industry. Why are people going to read your posts? What are you giving to them? Find your niche, write it down and stick to it. 
Make a blog

It is much easier than you think. Platforms like WordPress & Blogger have pre-made templates you can use, or Wix allows easily customisable websites to be built. If you have the budget or want to take your blog to the next level then you can look into getting a website custom built. It is certainly a hefty investment but if this is something you’re passionate about, it can be 100% worth it.
Be consistent with your content.

Blogging twice a month just isn't going to cut it. Aim for once a week in the beginning and go from there. It can be really useful to set up a blogging schedule. Try posting on the same days each week so readers know when to expect content, and try to plan when you’re going to write rather than leaving it to the last possible minute. 

Make it social

Be sure to set up accompanying social media accounts for your blog - all with the same username if you can. Then be active. Share your posts online, tag relevant accounts and get involved in conversations. Networking on social media is absolutely key and can really help with growth of your blog and your brand. Do not be afraid to talk to others who have the same interests, and definitely don't be afraid to shout about what you’re doing. 
Stick with it

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Blogging takes time. It was years before I experienced any kind of significant growth. If you’re blogging about a topic you’re passionate about and you’re doing it because you love it, then this slow growth shouldn't be an issue. You have to put in the graft to get the rewards so keep on grinding and your time will come. There is always more room at the top!
