What is Vedic Meditation?
Find out the secret to surviving stressful 21st century living.
Will Williams is an independent teacher of Vedic meditation and founder of Will Williams Meditation which is fast becoming London's biggest meditation hub. Will has taught over 2000 people how to enjoy greater happiness and wellbeing and also works with companies including Spotify, American Express and Channel 4, helping their employees feel happier and more productive.

It’s no secret that 21st century living can be incredibly stressful. The majority of us, especially those of us living in busy cities like London, are faced with multiple daily demands. An abundance of emails, long hours in front of our laptop or smartphone screens and overdoing it on the caffeine all place enormous stress on our nervous systems. On top of that, we’re often under pressure with fulfilling family, social and work commitments. Sometimes the stress can seem never-ending.
What is stress?

Every time we’re faced with a stressful situation, such as an email from our boss we’d rather not receive, a car alarm or screaming kids, a part of our brain called the amygdala activates the ‘fight or flight’ response.
Stress hormones and neurochemicals flood our systems and prepare our bodies for survival. This biological mechanism was all very well for our ancestors when they were faced with a genuine threat such as a hungry sabre-tooth tiger, yet we’re now firing off multiple times a day in survival mode. The problem is that our brain perceives our daily demands as major threats.
When considering the fast-paced way in which many of us are operating, it’s no surprise that stress-related physical and psychological conditions are prevailing. Depression, anxiety, burnout, sleep problems, digestive issues, headaches or simply feeling disconnected from ourselves and others are all too common.

What is the answer?

Yet there is an antidote. Vedic meditation is a simple yet profound technique that has been scientifically proven to reverse the stress response. Originating from Northern India over 10,000 years ago, it involves silently and effortlessly repeating a personalised mantra (sound), for twenty minutes twice a day.
The sound is particularly charming to our nervous system, and gently transports it into a profound state of relaxation, one that is 33% deeper than the deepest state of sleep.
As a result, any anxiety or stress we may be experiencing begins to dissipate. The brain comes into coherence, in the same way the different players in an orchestra are brought together beautifully by an adept composer.

What are the benefits?
The benefits are far-reaching - as well as becoming significantly calmer and clearer, we find ourselves being more productive, creative and intuitive, more at ease with the ebb and flow of life and better able to communicate with those around us.
We can settle down to a more harmonised way of being, not just during the meditation, but throughout our day. Addictions and negative thought patterns tend to disappear, we sleep more soundly (Vedic meditation has been shown to reduce sleep disorders by 42%) and have bags more energy.  In fact, I first learnt Vedic meditation eight years ago after trying every remedy out there to alleviate my insomnia. Within a few weeks of learning, my insomnia vanished never to return again.
And the beauty of it is that it is so simple that even kids can learn it. There’s no need to adapt your lifestyle; you can meditate anywhere - on the train, in a meeting room, in bed, in a park!
In summary, Vedic meditation is a simple practice that can profoundly transform your enjoyment of life. If you’d like to find out more, join us for one of our free introductory talks in Soho.
