2018 - How The People of Balance Will Nail It
Don’t look back, look forwards - it’s time to set positive intentions for the year ahead, not resolutions. In need of some inspiration? Here’s how our People of Balance are going to nail the year 2018. Just watch them.

Spend less time inside, and more time outside (yes even in January!)
As the season starts to turn cold, we can all have a tendency to do less outside. We stay in, bundle up, nestle in and prioritise staying warm, rather than getting outside and enjoying new adventures. Everything grows better outside with a little sunshine - especially us. So get out there and breathe it all in.
Spend more time listening, rather than talking
Living in a busy world, we’re constantly surrounded by noise. In the New Year it’s all about turning the volume down. Whether we realise it or not, we often use our words to protect, deflect and connect with the world around us. But the truth is, there is so much to enjoy when you take time to slow down, turn down, and let the quiet lead the way. The less you talk, the more you can hear, and that’s not a bad thing at all.
Practice more yoga off the mat and live mindfully every single day
Yoga isn’t just what we do for 60mins on the mat in a studio, but the way we live life off the mat. As a yogi it’s important that we continue to bring the practice off the mat in the real world where the benefits of yoga can really be put into practice.

Taking one day off a week
Last year I smashed this resolution for the first 6 months of 2017 and managed to schedule in one day off a week about 90% of the time. It did wonders for my stress levels and also my relationships. Taking this time off allowed me to feel like I had a good work-life balance - I avoided feeling overwhelmed and I got to spend time with those I love. Sadly, things got a bit crazy half way through 2017 and this resolution went out the window. So, in 2018 I am reinstalling it and I am determined to make it last the full 12 months!
Getting more inventive with my plant-based diet
In 2017 I went pretty much fully plant-based, which I love. However, I have fallen into a convenient and common habit of making the same meals on a regular basis - just as I did when I ate animal products. So, in 2018 I am determined to try a minimum of one new plant based recipe a week, whether that’s a new smoothie combination, an innovative packed lunch or an inventive wholesome dinner. I am also going to focus on new recipes around ingredients, which are local and seasonal, for environmental purposes. Not only will this develop my cooking skills, but it will also ensure I mix up the nutrients I am consuming so that I avoid any deficiencies. Win-win!
Stop scrolling
During the Living Consciously Crew digital detox challenge I set myself the goal to stop scrolling first thing in the morning and it was a game changer for me. I started my day on a more productive and positive foot. In 2018 I will be continuing this practice and in general trying to consciously disconnect myself from technology. Whether that’s a day each month where I don’t use social media or just putting my phone in my bag at meal times rather than on the table.
