Sometimes hearing it from somebody else is most effective. That's why we caught up with the power crew behind Barry's Bootcamp to discover their personal fitness journeys, find out how they balance their work-life and strive to be the best versions of themselves, every day. Listen up ya'll.

Personal Fitness Journey

I got into fitness when I was pregnant. Following the pregnancy, I felt quite yuck within myself and wanted to do something about it. I started going to fitness classes and fell in love with the whole group fitness concept and the magic you get from working out together. Since then, I've never looked back.

Work-Life Balance Philosophy

Work hard, play hard – it’s 50/50.

How To Be The Best Version Of Yourself:
 
  1. Don’t quit
  2. Keep the end goal constantly in mind
  3. Baby steps – don’t be overly ambitious

Personal Fitness Journey

My journey into fitness started in LA. I was an actor in film and TV. I was a huge Barry’s fan and initially started out as a client. My favourite thing about being a Barry’s trainer is the interaction with clients. It’s amazing to see their journeys from walking through the doors for the first time, to getting their first 12.5 sprint.  

Work-Life Balance Philosophy

Always do something you enjoy. I’ve never done a job I haven’t loved doing. For me, coming to work and going to Barry’s doesn’t feel like I’m at work – I get to hang out with friends and have an hour to lose myself when I'm teaching.

How To Be The Best Version Of Yourself:

1) Find a community
2) Don’t over face yourself
3) Find something you enjoy

Personal Fitness Journey

The pinnacle moment was when I was training to get into the Royal Marines. When I was 16, I left school and it was quite evident that I wasn’t going to University. Training as a Marine taught me discipline and resilience, and that was how I really began my journey. What keeps me motivated now, is the thought of looking back on my life when I'm older and realising how fit I once was. 

Work-Life Balance Philosophy

Must have a lot of down time. I’d rather have less money and work, to have more time to play. If you don’t feel it, don’t do it – listen to your body. In London we’re always expected to do way too much and can be very hard on ourselves. It’s ok to have a lazy day and watch Jeremy Kyle in bed.


How To Be The Best Version Of Yourself:

1) Take extreme ownership of everything in your life
2) Be willing to do the things you don’t want to do
3) Listen to yourself

Personal Fitness Journey

I was in a corporate job working in the city and got bored, so I switched jobs and was still bored. I didn’t want the same thing to keep happening, so I decided to put my passion for fitness into use. I was already a Barry’s client and one of my friends suggested that I would be great for the job. So I came in for a mic test and the rest is history!

Work-Life Balance Philosophy

To do something for myself every day. It’s so easy when you’re helping other people to neglect yourself. My balance means that I need at least one hour to myself to sweat, have a sports massage or any kind of self-care that’s just for me, every single day.

How To Be The Best Version Of Yourself:

1) Do something that makes you feel good
2) Challenge yourself – step outside of your comfort zone
3) Surround yourself with like-minded people

I used to work at Barry’s as a Front-of-House Supervisor and would join classes all the time. I eventually got poached! I actually trained as a dancer in the first place, so I’ve always had that level of fitness.

Personal Fitness Journey

As a runner, I’ve always been big into my fitness. I moved to New York with my husband and started going to Barry’s and fell in love with it. I started as a client doing the workout and decided this was what I wanted to do with my life. Previously I was working in the city doing 16 hour days and feeling stressed all the time with little job satisfaction. So, I quit my career in law and haven’t looked back since!

Work-Life Balance Philosophy

I’m very lucky that my work is something that I love and enjoy - it never really feels like work! But, like everyone, I get days when I’ve been teaching a lot and get home and know the balance feels off. To chill out I like to take my little 8-month baby out for a walk. For me, getting outside without my phone is how I bring my balance back.

How To Be The Best Version Of Yourself:

1) Take rest days
2) Carry water
3) Enjoy carbs – eat the cake when you deserve it.

I’m passionate about what I do, but it’s healthy to take my breaks. So outside of my work I cut all communication with anyone but my family.

Before working at Barry’s, I was a Marine Biologist living in Madagascar. When I came back I wanted to stay in an active job, because sport was always my passion. It was a natural progression, really!

It’s about working hard, playing hard and then chilling hard. Everything to the max.

1) Never compare yourself to anybody else
2) Have enjoyable and ambitious goals
3) Don’t get stressed and enjoy the ride

My journey started after university when I was working in PR. I was introduced to Barry’s and fell in love with the workout and the brand.  A few years later I got offered a role as Account Manager for Barry’s and got very immersed in the brand. I then realised that PR was no longer the career I wanted to pursue and after having a taste for Barry’s, it made sense to become a trainer.

Work-Life Balance Philosophy

I believe in balance. In this industry it's very easy to mix work and life, so you need to be conscious of this and make sure not everything is work-related.

1) Be true to yourself
2) Believe in yourself
3) Have a positive outlook

I knew having a 9-5 didn’t suit me, so I decided to look for other things. After doing my Level 2 Fitness Trainer course, everything just started to make sense and fitted into place. I’m a person that when something makes sense, I enjoy it. And here I am today.

It’s very much about achieving balance – having a balance between the two. I believe we must make time for life. We are never too busy for life, although we might think we are.
