Ok ok, I know that goals and the whole 'New Year, New You' business has been done to death, but let’s face it, we still all need a little motivation (and things) to look forward to after all of the Christmas treats have gone and we’re back to the daily grind - not to mention the wrath that January weather brings.
Goals, goals, goals
Who else is holding out to set some new ones ‘cause you’ve already crushed 2016?' Yeah, us too. A new year brings fresh opportunities, new people, and bigger, better places to be seen! The possibilities for 2017 are endless, so get goal-writing to ensure you make the most of all 365 days.
Planning a holiday
We all know that winter drags on, so why not get excited about taking a mid-winter break, or start planning a lush summer vaycay as soon as spring arrives. Make use of the dark evenings, put the kettle on, curl up with a blanket, get your iPad out and start pinning places on your travel wishlist (bonus point: it will also motivate you to put money away each week so you can really afford to take the break you deserve). We think our 'somewhere exotic
' pin board may be the inspiration you need to book a ticket, stat.
Big life events are bound to happen
If you’re like me, every time you open social media, one of your besties has had a ring put on it, or they’ve shared a cute pic of their 3D ultrasound scan. You know that something is bound to come your way this year, whether that’s a new place, baby, puppy, promotion... or saying yes to something new. Regardless, exciting times are ahead.
iPhone 8... or new-i-something
Who knows what exciting new gadgets Apple have install for us all. Let’s just hope the new iPhone will see us never having to run faster for a charge than we do on a treadmill, or maybe a 100% shatter proof screen. Regardless, the tech trends of 2017 will no doubt be the ones to watch.
Participate in a fitness challenge
Have you always wanted to run your first marathon
, or learn how to do scorpion pose? Whatever you set your sights on, 2017 could be the year you nail. Some races we think that are worth checking out: Urban Tri
, Tough Mudder
, Spartan Race
, and various Fun Runs
With new fitness goals, you need motivation
Of course, and there’s no better form than looking smoking in new activewear. Get excited, we will be dropping the fiercest new brands and styles, and you’ll be the first to know when we do. Sign up to our newsletter
and follow us on Instagram
to be the first to know.
Festivals and sunshine
If you’re really not about winter, summer is only eight-short months away. Missed out on Glasto
tickets during their first drop? No fear, you’ve still got time to register and try your luck with resales in April. If thigh-high mud and ‘sheewees’ aren’t your thang and you’re all about wellness, join us at the first-ever Balance Festival
With a new year comes more responsibility, and hopefully a rise in remuneration. This year more than ever we need to show the power of being a woman, so don’t just sit back and wait for it to happen, the secret to success is literally hustling for it.
Falling in love with someone... or yourself
We all know self-love is the new true love, so set your sights higher than finding ‘the one’. Find the importance of spending a little me-time each week to pamper yourself and know how to find comfort in your own skin. Melissa Ambrosini
is one of our fave gurus at learning how to flex that self-belief muscle and riding our inner mean girl.
The rise in wearables and where these will take us
Tracking fitness levels was only previously the work of PT’s and Scientists, but it is now accessible to us all, and we find it so motivating to see the actual numbers increase the more we get a sweat on. FitBit
, MissFit Shine
, Apple Watch
, it’s never been easier to track your day and set measurable goals.
Think about how many friends on Facebook you acquired this year and how many actual ‘friend’ followers you gained on Instagram. You’re bound to meet a tonne more in 2017. The trick is though, you actually have to get out of your dressing gown and go to those parties and networking events that are on opposite sides of the compass. I know, four tubes and a bus seem like the biggest mission ever, but you never know who you’ll end up having an awkward conversation with, that could turn into something more grand.
50 Shades of Grey 2.0
Here’s the trailer
, need we say more?
Picking up a new skill
This is different to a goal, because more often than not a new skill is learnt without preempting it! You can look forward to picking up many new skills next year which will make life a little easier; you’ll become more efficient, you can update your LinkedIn and Instagram to show off said new talents. So make friends with the guy sitting opposite to you at work, you never know what you could learn from him.
T Swift’s long awaited album release...
With no doubt one or two songs paying homage to the fonder, more loved up times of dating Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston. Regardless, it's bound to be a goodie.
First animated take of Disney's Beauty and the Beast
Not out until Summer 2017 (June), Harry Potter's very own Emma Watson returns to the big screen to play the one and only, Belle. We. Can't. Wait.
The Year of the Rooster.
This Chinese NY celebrates the Year of the Red Fire Rooster. Meaning we are entering an 'intelligent period’. So commencing 28 January you should start to feel a little smarter - we can’t complain with that.
2014 memoir of the same name by Sophia Amoruso, founder of NastyGal, is currently being adapted into a Netflix series set to premiere in 2017. A massive YES to this.
......Oh and one final one for good measure
Did we mention summer?
Around 200 days give or take from when you're reading this does the real magic start. Get excited people...
